About
The 1010 Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing income-generating grants to indigenous development partners in Kenya and raising awareness on behalf of the global poor in the United States. 1010’s mission is to build relationships and partnerships with creative and innovative people throughout the world, learning and working together to break the cycle of poverty for life. The 1010 Project was founded in May of 2003.
Summary
This experience is an opportunity to gain valuable insight into actual non-profit operations, and better correlate academic experience with professional experience. Implementation is accomplished by allowing our interns to assume real roles and significant responsibility inside the organization. Available semester or summer-long internships are posted on our website at www.the1010project.org/internships.html.
Internship Objectives
1. Skill development: Interns will learn and improve specific skills through observation and application
2. Broader knowledge: Interns will acquire an understanding of the non-profit workplace, operational procedures, and organizational structure
3. Career Awareness: Interns will have an accurate picture of specific career positions and the qualities, education, and training required for them
4. Personal Development: Through this challenging experience Interns will have the opportunity to enhance valuable professional traits such as confidence, assertiveness, work ethic, and decision-making
5. Application of Integration: Interns will be able to put into practice their values, education, and recent experience into a professional environment
Requirements for Participation
1. At least 18 years old
2. Current college student or recent graduate
3. Commitment, 10-20 hours a week depending on the specific intern position

Grant Writer
Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic individual to join our team and work from our office in Denver, Colorado. This internship is a great opportunity for you to be involved with a young and high-energy nonprofit organization. You will have the opportunity to utilize your organizational and writing skills while learning more about grassroots initiatives.
Responsibilities
This part-time unpaid internship will focus on grant writing and financial development. In this position you will be responsible for researching possible funding sources and applying for grants. Interns will begin by familiarizing themselves on our organization. After a short period they will begin applying for funding from previously identified foundations or grant giving organizations. Finally, the grant-writing intern will be challenged with the task of finding new income sources. By the end of the internship, a dedicated intern will have extensive experience in one of the most valued skills in the non-profit sector.
Desired Qualifications
1. Quality organizational skills and attention to detail
2. Exceptional writing abilities
3. Strong computer skills (Internet & Microsoft Office)
4. Ability to use the internet as a research medium
5. Patience and dedication to long term projects with little or no tangible results
6. Ability to both take direction and to work autonomously when necessary
Time Commitment
The ideal intern will commit to a six-month position. However, we are willing to shorten the time commitment to a summer or semester. This position will require an average of 10-15 hours per week.

Partnership Development
Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic individual to join our team and work from our office in Denver, Colorado. This internship is a great opportunity for you to be involved with a young and high-energy nonprofit organization. You will have the opportunity to utilize your communication and organizational skills while learning more about grassroots initiatives.
Responsibilities
This part-time unpaid internship will focus on maintaining relationships with our Kenyan partners. At The 1010 Project we believe that Relationships Matter. You will help us relay this message to the social entrepreneurs that we are supporting in Kenya. This position is also responsible for the qualitative and quantitative measurement of our work in Kenya. Our donors see their gifts as an investment and it is imperative to show them the impact of their gift. This position will report to the executive director. Only outstanding and exceptional applicants will be considered for this position.

Benefit Dinner
Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic individual to join our team and work from our office in Denver, Colorado. This internship is a great opportunity for you to be involved with a young and high-energy nonprofit organization. You will have the opportunity to utilize your leadership abilities and organizational skills while gaining exceptional experience in event coordination.
Responsibilities
This part-time unpaid internship will focus on organizing our annual benefit dinner. Months of planning go into this single night event. We need an strong intern to lead these efforts. This position will require you to mobilize our volunteers, solicit corporate sponsors, build attendance, and ensure the overall success of the event.

The ideal intern will commit through the benefit dinner (October 2008.) However, we are willing shorten or lengthen the time period for exceptional candidates. This position will require an average of 10-15 hours per week.

Event Coordinator
Summary

You will have the opportunity to utilize your leadership abilities and organizational skills while learning more about grassroots initiatives.
Responsibilities
This part-time unpaid internship will focus on organizing community events. This position is at the core of what we value at 1010. You will help organize events such as our monthly community dinner that help us advocate on behalf of the global poor. In this role you will be furthering our mission of "Challenge Minds, End Poverty." This position is responsible for coming up with creative mediums to communicate the work of our partners to our donors. The Event Coordinator Intern will be responsible for mobilizing our volunteers, utilizing community resources, and networking with corporate sponsors to create dynamic community advocacy events.

Video Edition and Communication
Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic individual to join our team and work from our office in Denver, Colorado. This internship is a great opportunity for you to be involved with a young and high-energy nonprofit organization. You will have the opportunity to utilize your skills in video editing and learn more about our partners in Kenya.
Responsibilities
This part-time unpaid internship will be comprised of two major projects:
1. Organize and categorize Hours of video footage into a comprehensive media library. The intern will catalog all footage based on designated categories in conjunction with other 1010 marketing and communications strategies as designated by the Director of Communications. The intern will create a weekly report to be given to the Director of Communications that summarizes a recurring theme or common thread that the intern has realized or learned.
2. After completing the catalog process, the intern will create short videos to support our goal of challenging minds through advocacy for the poor. The first video will be a cutting edge story line based on what was observed and learned through watching the footage during the cataloging process.
All media created for 1010 will be the property of The 10/10 Project, Inc. However, interns are allowed and encouraged to keep all of their original ideas and multimedia creations for a portfolio. These will be valuable examples of there abilities in the future.
Desired Qualifications

2. Love for creativity and artistic expression
3. Three to four years experience (not necessarily professional) working with video editing software and equipment
4. Access to a computer
5. Access to video editing software
