As reported by the BBC, Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga have signed an agreement to end the country's post-election crisis. At a ceremony in Nairobi, the two men put their signatures to a power-sharing deal brokered by ex-UN head Kofi Annan.
We see progress being made with Candle Light, one of our partners in Kenya, and we witness an historic sharing of power by leaders of Kenya. The people of Kenya must be encouraged by this shift in leadership and we are hopeful for peace and reconciliation.

- All reports from our friends and development partners in Kenya indicate that they are safe, but they remain deeply concerned regarding recent sporadic acts of violence and the escalating price of food and water.
- The problem areas of Kisumu, Eldoret, Kibera, and Embakasi affect all of 10/10's 29 community based organizations.
- The political process has made progress with both sides agreeing to select three-person negotiating teams and talks towards a political solution to the crisis are now underway. The situation, however, remains tense and violence could break out at any time, depending on how the negotiations proceed and how the public reacts to unfolding events.
- On February 1, government and opposition leaders reportedly agreed on a plan to end the political and ethnic violence gripping the country. The details and specifics of this plan are still being worked out.
January 7th
There is a lot of uncertainty and concern surrounding all of 10/10s partners around Kenya. So far, all are safe, but most are held up in their homes without access to food. We are in constant communication with our partners and will keep you update. Meanwhile, get involved in the relief effort by donating through 10/10 to help our partners get food and then begin to rebuild businesses.
